Our Philosophy in Service Provision

API Legal Outreach offers services at low cost or no cost, based on a client’s income and assets.  We promote the provision of services:

  • In the client’s language of choice
  • Appropriate for the culture of the client
  • At a site of the client’s choice if not ambulatory
  • That aid the client in making decisions rather than dictating a course of action
  • Which are holistic in a collaborative effort with other service providers.

Legal Intake Line

At API Legal Outreach, we understand the challenges and barriers you face in seeking and obtaining legal representation.  These challenges and barriers are even more prominent when English is not your primary language.  For this reason, we do our best to have a live person available to speak with you when you call.  We have bilingual staff available to assist you.  Please let our receptionist know your language need when you call.

To seek legal advice or legal representation, please call us at our San Francisco or Oakland office to speak to a Legal Intake Staff:

(415) 567-6255        Monday – Friday    |       9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

(510) 251-2846       Monday – Friday, closed on Thursday     |     9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

When you call, we will conduct a legal intake with you over the phone to find out more about your situation and your legal needs.  Your information shared with us is kept confidential and is not shared with third parties.  As the caller, you must be the person seeking legal assistance or representation.  We will not be able to answer your questions or assist if you are calling on behalf of someone else who is not present with you.

Attorney Representation

After you complete the legal intake process, our attorney staff will review your information and determine your eligibility for services.  Due to the volume of calls we receive and sometimes limited capacity, we are not able to provide full legal representation to everyone who seeks our assistance.  If we are unable to accept your case for representation, we will do our best to provide you with appropriate referrals.

Community Legal Clinics

API Legal Outreach partners with community-based organizations such as the Pilipino Bayanihan Resource Center, Bayanihan Community Center, Chinatown Community Development, Cannon Kip, Vet Equity Center, Filipinos for Justice, 1st Mongolian Christian Church and other service providers to provide legal clinics that target specific underserved populations, in particular, the elderly and newer API immigrant populations.  With the involvement of the community-based organization staff, volunteers, volunteer attorneys, law students and interpreters, API Legal Outreach has been able to provide free legal counseling, referral and brief legal services to many individuals who, otherwise, might not have received such help.

The Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area (AABA) has been a key partner in our efforts to serve the API community in the legal clinic setting.  Hosted at the University of California Hastings College of Law, API Legal Outreach and AABA run this legal clinic every fourth Monday of the month.
