Over 400 people attended this year's "Taste of the Islands" event celebrating API Legal Outreach's 35 years of serving the community. The annual event featured a blend of culture, cuisine, entertainment and education. API Legal Outreach thanks all the guests and sponsors for all of their continued support.

Hawaiian Slack Key Master:
Patrick Landeza
Musician, composer, producer, Patrick Landeza is considered a leading
exponent of ki ho'alu, the Hawaiian slack key style, carrying
on the unique fingerpicking method developed in the 19th century by
Hawaiian cowboys who loosened their guitar strings (or "slacked" them)
for a lower, more resonant sound.
Born and raised in Berkeley to Hawaii-born parents, Patrick picked up
guitar while in high school and cultivated his craft by studying slack
key from masters like George Kuo and the late Ray Kane and Sonny
Chillingworth. Today, Patrick is regarded as one of the top slack key
performers, and is the Bay Area's own slack key master.
Chef Dominic Ainza of Mercury Lounge
"I'm
just a cook," Chef Dominic Ainza simplifies, but behind his humility is
an intensely creative passion for food and strong ambition to elevate
the cuisine that is closest to his heart.
What sets Chef
Dominic apart is experience, accolade and vision. As a graduate with
honors at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, he is
classically trained in French techniques. Prior to opening Mercury
Appetizer Bar in the Marina, now Mercury Lounge in the SOMA, Chef
Dominic has been a force behind numerous award winning kitchens.
