Take 2 Minutes to Protect Medicare from Congressional Cuts
Medicare and Medicaid provide essential healthcare for millions of Americans—seniors, people with disabilities, children, and families struggling to make ends meet. Today, these crucial programs face proposed cuts that threaten this vital safety net. These aren’t just budget items—they’re lifelines. When we discuss cuts, we’re talking about real people potentially losing access to medications, therapies, and necessary medical care. Healthcare access transcends political divides; it reflects our shared values as a society.

Dear [US Representative],
I’m reaching out today to urge you to protect Medicaid.
More than 80 million Americans depend on Medicaid for health coverage, including 17 million older adults and individuals with disabilities. Medicaid is a critical lifeline, helping families afford care, supporting older adults and people with disabilities, and ensuring access to comprehensive health services.
Medicaid is facing at least $880 billion in cuts. There is no reality in which $880 billion will be found through fraud or waste. Whether it’s through changing who qualifies for Medicaid, or adding red tape through work requirements, all proposed changes WILL result in reduced access to critical healthcare for Americans who need it most.
No matter the policy name, proposed changes to Medicaid all mean the same thing: less care, fewer services, and more barriers to the support people need to live in their homes and communities. Most devastatingly, these cuts to Medicaid will be catastrophic for people with disabilities, who often already struggle to get accommodations while navigating complex enrollment systems.
Any cuts to Medicaid will force states to reduce or deny services and eligibility, negatively impacting the health and wellbeing of people with disabilities, as well as older adults, family caregivers and their children, direct care workers, and other low-income individuals.
Access to health care coverage is a matter of life, death, and independence for millions of Americans with disabilities. I urge you to stand up for Medicaid and ensure that it remains fully funded and protected by opposing the Budget Reconciliation bill. Millions of lives depend on it.
Sincerely,
[Your name]
