When Shelter in Place is No Shelter

Centerpiece Conversation I: When Shelter in Place is No Shelter

CENTERPIECE CONVERSATION I

For many of us this year, home has been a safe haven. Unfortunately for many, it’s resulted in violence. We examine how the rise of Covid-19 has led to a rise in domestic abuse within the homes of many of our most vulnerable community members. Our panelists are:

  • Beckie Masaki, Co-founder, former Executive Director of Asian Women’s Shelter
  • Jean Pham, Social Services/Youth Project Manager, API Legal Outreach
  • Emily Chum, Director of Social Services, Self Help for the Elderly

This is the first in our three part Centerpiece Conversation series. To view our recorded live event, visit this page.

REBUILDING THE DREAM CENTERPIECE CONVERSATIONS

From the struggle for BIPOC rights to the impact of Covid on Chinatown and other ethnic communities to the rise in domestic violence as we shelter-in-place, this year has challenged our immigrant communities like no other. As part of our 2020 fundraiser Rebuilding the Dream, API Legal Outreach presents a series of three Centerpiece Conversations examining this year’s key issues driving our work and the world. These virtual events promise to be engaging, informative, and vital. Join us the first three Wednesdays in December at 6pm PT.

The event is finished.
