June 25, 2024 – What to Do When an Elder’s Been Abused: Legal Remedies and ProsecutionThe “Protecting Our Seniors” series aims to raise awareness about the often overlooked but critically important issue of elder abuse. Throughout the series, we will delve into the various forms of elder abuse, its prevalence, warning signs, prevention strategies, and resources available for victims and their families. By bringing together representatives from Adult Protective Services (APS), victim services organizations, and the District Attorney’s office, we hope to provide comprehensive insights and guidance on addressing elder abuse within our community.

June 25, 2024 – What to Do When an Elder’s Been Abused: Legal Remedies and Prosecution
In the final session, Nancy Tung, Chief of the Vulnerable Victims Unit & Community Partners from the San Francisco District Attorney’s office will shed light on the legal aspects of elder abuse, including prosecution, investigation procedures, and available legal remedies for victims. We will explore the challenges of prosecuting elder abuse cases, strategies for holding perpetrators accountable, and collaborative efforts between law enforcement and community stakeholders.

Nancy Tung has been a prosecutor for the last 23 years. She currently manages the Vulnerable Victims Unit, which handles cases involving physical elder abuse, financial elder abuse, hate crimes, and some crimes against minors. She works with community groups and other law enforcement agencies to educate the public on crime issues and to familiarize people with the court system. Chief Tung also participates on several elder justice task forces.
